Welcome back to the We Travel Podcast. Episode 11, it's okay to not be perfect, the behind the scenes of social media. Hi, I'm Mallory Green, the host of We Travel Podcast, bringing you every other weekly tips, tricks, things to do if you want to be a content creator, launching your own business, your own brand, and just getting yourself out there on social media. Because what is it to be social if we're not all socially perfect? together. All right. I just botched that, but Hey, I don't have a script. It's just me and my new pink microphone, the pink pony club today. I just wanted to sit here and chat with you about why it's better for you and your brand to just be your authentic self. I know authentic is so overused and I'm sure there's a bajillion other words to use instead of authentic. So just insert hashtag thesaurus.com to get your own version of authentic. So So if I annoy you with saying it over and over again, you can just do that instead. Okay. So what do we want to see? We want to see people being their true selves. I know that is overused all over social media, but gone are the days where people want to see pretty photos in their timelines all over their feed, aesthetically pleasing as it is to see formal photos and photo shoots happening on a day-to-day basis. They also love to see like a messy room or things scattered on your table when you're making breakfast, a piece of food over there and here and there on your dining room table, like Come on. Real life means that you're hustling, you're bustling through your day. You left something on the counter that should have been put away. Sure. But it got in the photo anyways. Like today, Coco, my dog was on my lap, love her. And I was like, you know what? I'm gonna take a photo of me and her with my new mic. And I had like the TV on in the background. I was like, gosh, I should have just turned off the TV before I took the photo. But no, no one cares. No one is critiquing the photo and the content. you create as much as you are because you're the one who's behind the scenes looking at whatever it is that you're doing all day, every single day. So just relax, take it easy on yourself. If you do capture something in your photo or in your video and you're embarrassed or you're like, oh my gosh, there's a crumb in my shot. It's okay. Cause I feel like 99.9% of the time, no one else is going to notice it except for you. So just hot tip number one, Be your authentic version of yourself. Don't let anyone else tell you differently. Number two, behind the scene clips. If you're out and about hustling and you want to get like behind the scenes shots, like a mini vlog of you going out and being a social media manager, get the stuff where it's like a flop, like a, like it would be considered a blooper, but it's not because that's what life is. Life is full of bloopers, whether or not you like it, you're going to get your heels stuck in the grass. You're going to have a crimp in your hair from when you didn't straighten it all the way out in the back of your head. When you took a selfie, like those are little things in life are what make you relatable. It's what's going to grow your following, have you connect with more people in your niche, whatever it is that you're promoting. If you're a brand manager, social media, have your own company, whatever that may be, travel content creator, influencer, having those little knickknacks of the messy corners of your life laid out on social media is what's going to have that higher following count, get more engagements, brand deals, whatever it is you're trying to go after. Number three. being true to what you actually say if if you like explicit content saying those things i personally don't really you know drop the f-bomb maybe here and there or if i'm like trying to get my point across i use it for like emphasis and stuff but you're not gonna really see me like every other word dropping a dirty sailor mouth word but if that's you hey power to you if that's what gets your point across or if that's what you know makes up who you are with your everyday vocabulary then go ahead and use it don't try to fine tune or auto tune what you're trying to say and like bleep it out all the time because that's going to get noticeable that's not going to like overall be your feeling and your true authentic self same goes if you're poetic and you use a lot of descriptive words to emulate how you're feeling and how you want to talk to your audience like use that if that's the way you speak and relate to who you're talking to in everyday conversation I feel like the more your normal, the more you pursue your active self, use your active self, however I'm trying to say it here, that's what's going to connect you with your audience even further, like even attract you to more people. It's like whatever you put out into the universe, that's what you receive, right? The manifestation type of thing. So if you're like, I cook recipes for people who don't have time to make healthy meals for their families. And then you talk about muffins and snacks for toddlers and other things for your family to incorporate during a weekly busy mom life. Stick to that. Stick to what you're trying to do. Get your message across to that audience. Put it out there in the universe. Have PDFs, freebies that you promote along the way and get people to click on and utilize to subscribe to your email list. I'm going off on a big tangent here. But again, it ties into who you are authentically, who you put yourself out there on the internet. A quick break to just talk to you about Iconosquare. Oh my gosh, if you're looking for the ultimate tool to streamline your social media strategy, I've got the thing for you. Let me introduce you to Iconosquare. And three, how it all ties in to the behind the scenes, like messiness of life. Having everything out there on social media, I know is scary and you want to make it look like a highlight reel, but a highlight reel is so like 2016, 2018. No one wants to see a picture perfect grid of how you wake up, your bed is magically made. There's a smoothie waiting for you by the front door. Just making sure that you stay honest to who you are and to yourself because it's okay to not be perfect. That's the whole theme of today's episode. So just give a chef's kiss of you being yourself, your own authentic self, and put yourself out there on the internet to connect with the audience that you want to connect with. So with that, I say adieu, talk to you soon, keep up the great work, keep up the travel content, and have the best weekend ever. See you next time!
